Memories - Barbados Island Adventures with Rex.

Here is an entertaining saga of an outrageous and crazy person who had a terrific spirit of adventure and an over-the-top spirit of fun.  Together with his parents, Les and Muriel, Rex Wotton ran the West Coast Watersports shop at Coral Reef hotel. It was only a short walk from Settlers Beach. The center took hotel guest diving and on daytime and sunset cruises along the coast. He was an expert seafarer trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in all matters of ship navigation, and marine work. Rex was just one of the most enchanting Rogues in Paradise. He had a woderful sense of fun and used it to win over every situation. Sailing to St. Vincent with a friend at age 11 shows his spirit of adventure. He encouraged all to join him in pranks and daredevil acts, making it seem safe, easy, and a joy.

He was a powerful high-energy figure at 5 feet 8 inches, well built, with untidy, light-brown hair and piercing blue eyes. Not one for formal exercises; he did not run, jog, push weights, or do any prescribed gym. Hard work, active play, and running the West Coast water was his workout. He sailed, taught scuba diving, and was always busy repairing boats, engines, and gear. He transported people, food, drinks, and scuba gear, from hotels to oceans and had a full schedule of on-the-job workouts. The scuba tanks were weighty, and it was a high-impact sport to load 20 tanks into the old VolsWagan van. They had to be unloaded and piled in the dive shop and later strapped onto guests for the deep dives and shallow water instructions. He was not often still.
